Attila Bartha is Senior Research Fellow at the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences. He holds an MA in Economics, an MPhil in Sociology, and a PhD in Economics. He is Associate Professor and Program Director of the MSc Programme in Public Policy and Management at the Corvinus University of Budapest. Bartha is the founding editor and since 2023 the editor-in-chief of the Intersections. East European Journal of Society and Politics (IEEJSP) journal. He has participated in several international research projects, including the NEUJOBS (How Multiple Transitions Will Affect the European Labour Market) research project funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme and the DEMOS (Democratic Efficacy and the Varieties of Populism in Europe) collaborative H2020 Research & Innovation project. Attila has led several research projects funded by the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA, NKFIH). In 2014 he received the Best Teacher Award from the students of the Széchenyi István College for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences.

He has about 80 academic publications, almost half of which are in English with over 180 independent international citations. His research focuses on public policy studies and governance. Attila has studied the impact of populism on governance and policymaking, the role of youth in fragile democracies, and the broader socio-political mechanisms shaping policy reforms in various public policy areas. He has published articles in the areas of care policy, economic policy, education policy and pension policy using various types of qualitative comparative case study methods. He has also studied the role of populist governance in COVID-19 pandemic policies.
