EXPERTS

Elisa Lironi is the Programme Director for European Democracy, working at the European Citizen Action Service (ECAS) since 2015. She develops and leads ECAS’ European Democracy focus area by implementing EU projects and research studies related to Digital Democracy, Countering Disinformation and Civic Engagement. She is the digital democracy expert for ECAS and has been managing projects on this subject from different EU programmes, including Erasmus+, REC, CERV and Horizon Europe.

Lironi conducts research specifically on e-participation practices in Europe and her latest publications include a book chapter on 'Crowdsourcing a Constitution: The world's first crowdsourced constitution rises from the ashes in Iceland' (Routledge, 2023) and another one on “Crowdsourcing EU Legislation: Harnessing the Power of Digital Democracy” (ECPR Press, 2021).  Due to her expertise in digital democracy, she has been a speaker in numerous occasions and events organised by local, national and EU Institutions and has been called upon to contribute to the work of, for example, the Court of Auditors, the Council of Europe, and the United Nations.
