Gabriella Szabó is a Senior Research Fellow at the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences. Her research interests lie in the areas of political communication and communities, expressivity, studies on the public sphere, and media. Szabó has participated in five research projects funded by the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA), two EU FP7 projects, a H2020 project, and a COST Action. Currently, she is involved in two Horizon Europe projects (MORES, PLEDGE), a COST Action (OPINION), and a project supported by the National Research, Development, and Innovation Office (EXPRIMER) focusing on emotions in political communication. As of 2023, she has published 26 Scopus-indexed articles and book chapters that are cited by 241 Scopus-indexed research papers (H index: 8). Szabó is an editor of the Central European Journal of Communication. She is a V-DEM country expert and remote expert of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
She is the former Head of the Department of Political Behaviour at the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences. In addition, Szabó is a lecturer at the Budapest University of Technology teaching a course on Research Methodology on BA and MA level. In 2016, Szabó received the Youth Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
