Péter Krekó is a behavioral scientist (social psychologist and political scientist by training), with a strong interest in disinformation and information manipulation, conspiracy theories, and malign foreign influence. He has published extensively on these topics in academic journals and the leading international press. Krekó is the Director of the Political Capital Institute, a Budapest-based think tank. Political Capital is currently the consortium leader for the Hungarian Digital Media Observatory, an anti-disinformation hub supported by the European Commission under the umbrella of the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO). Krekó is also a member of the EDMO Expert Group on Structural Indicators for the Code of Practice on Disinformation. Krekó is an Associate Professor (with habilitation) at the Department of Social Psychology and the Disinformation and Artificial Intelligence Research Lab Eötvös Loránd University of Sciences, Budapest.

Earlier he was a guest researcher with the Europe’s Futures—Ideas for Action program of the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, a non-resident associate fellow at the Johns Hopkins University SAIS Bologna Institute of Policy Research, and a PopBack Fellow at the University of Cambridge. Between 2016-2017, he was a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the Central Eurasian Studies Department of Indiana University, US.
