concerning the newsletter and website of the EU-funded MORES research project


This Privacy Policy is based on the European Union’s Data Protection Regulation, known as “GDPR.”

The present policy concerns the data privacy policies of the newsletter and website of the EU-funded project MORES - Moral Emotions in Politics: How They Unite, How They Divide.

Legal Terms Used in This Privacy Policy

Data subject refers to an individual to whom personal data directly or indirectly relates.

Personal data refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person. A person can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular with reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, geolocation data, an online identifier, or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural, or social identity.

Data processing refers to any operation or set of operations, which are performed on personal data or sets of personal data, whether by automated means, such as collection, recording, organization, structuring, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval, consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, alignment or combination, restriction, erasure, or destruction.

Data controller refers to the natural or legal person, public authority, agency, or other body that, alone or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of processing personal data. Where the purposes and means of such processing are determined by EU or member state law, the controller or the specific criteria for its nomination may be provided for by EU or member state law.

Data processor refers to a natural or legal person, public authority, agency, or other body, which processes personal data on behalf of the controller.

Data Protection Officer is a person whom you can contact to discuss matters related to the protection of your personal data.

Consent of the data subject means any freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous indication of the data subject’s wishes by which they, by a statement or by explicit affirmative action, signify agreement to the processing of personal data relating to them.

2. Data Processed, the Purpose and Legal Basis of Data Processing

The Data Controller processes the following data of clients visiting the project website:

- IP-address of the visitor,

- The date and time of visiting the website,

- The pages that the user visited on the website.

MORES will issue an electronic newsletter to share project-related news, events and information. The newsletter will be sent to those individuals who give their prior consent to receive MORES project-related information either to the consortium leader or to the consortium partner organisations.

Website visitors may also request to subscribe for the newsletter through submitting an electronic form providing the following personal data: their name, title/position, organisation, country, email address. The legal basis of data processing is the preliminary consent of the data subject. Data subject has the right to withdraw its consent at any time.

MORES does not store personal data collected through newsletter subscriptions for any other purpose. 

3. How Personal Data is Used

Personal data of MORES newsletter subscribers is stored locally on HUN-REN CSS servers and on Microsoft cloud-based servers.

Your personal data may be disclosed to reliable third parties that provide us administrative or technical support, such as MailerLite, our newsletter service provider. The Privacy Policy of MailerLite is available here.

We retain your personal data for no longer than necessary to fulfil the purpose of the processing in question. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.

5. The Rights of the Data Subjects

You have the following rights related to the processing of your data:

• the right of access to your personal data by requesting access to or sending copies of all your personal data processed by the Data Protection Officer as well as information on the processing of your data;

• to demand that your personal data is rectified by informing which elements of your personal data are incorrect;

• to demand that your personal data is erased; the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences reserves the right to refuse to erase data in cases permitted by law;

• to demand limited processing of your personal data;

• to demand that your personal data is transferred by the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences through the preparation and transfer of the personal data provided by you to another controller or to you in a structured, commonly used machine-readable format; only data processed under a contract may be transferred;

• to object to the processing of your personal data: in order to exercise the above-mentioned rights, contact us using any means of communication;

• to object to decisions based solely on computer processing and profiling and to question the decisions made about you by a computer.

The web-site visitors may at any time request information on their personal data being processed. In a letter sent to the address MTA Humán Tudományok Kutatóháza, T. épulet, 1.19. Tóth Kálmán u. 4. 1097 Budapest, or in an email sent to dataprotection (at) mores-horizon.eu they may at any time forbid the processing of their personal data. Such requests will be addressed within 15 days upon receipt.

6. Legal Remedies

With regard to the processing her or his data the client:

- may lodge a complaint at the Data Protection Officer via email at dataprotection (at) mores-horizon.eu

- file a petition at the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (1055 Budapest, Falk Miksa utca 9-11., levelezési cím: 1363 Budapest, Pf. 9.)

- or commence a procedure at the court competent based upon her or his permanent address or place of residence.

We reserve the right to modify this privacy policy at any time. Any such modification would not reduce the privacy or rights of the data subjects and would only serve to enhance security purposes.
